Subject:Re: Playing jazz on the XK-3
Michael,
You can set the foot switch on the XK-3 to scroll through the presets.

Hi all
Long-time reader, new poster. I have some questions that XK-3 owners may
be able to help me with. I plan to upgrade from my XK-2 pretty soon, finances
permitting.
I play jazz and cover the bass using the keyboard split. I've become
accustomed to using about 6-8 presets and switching sounds with my right
hand in between sections while my left hand is busy playing bass. It's pretty
easy because the preset buttons are right above where my right hand is
positioned.
Of course the XK-3 has a different layout that pretty much replicates the B-3,
with the drawbars out front and preset keys on the left. I'm interested to know
how other jazz players set up their presets and change their settings (on a
single manual) without awkwardly reaching across their busy left hand to hit a
preset key. Or do they make most of their changes directly to the drawbars on
the fly?
There are few settings I use alot - such as your basic comping/lower manual
sound, your typical J Smith solo sound, your silky 800 000 008 (fast leslie)
sound and the all stops out sound - that I want to be able to reach quickly
without too much fiddling. Of course I plan to add the lower manual to the XK-
3 eventually - and solve this problem in the process - but for me that won't be
affordable any time soon.
I'm sure there are a lot of jazz/blues players out there covering the bass parts,
for whom economy and ease of movement is all important, especially if the
tempo is flying!
Look forward to hearing from you,
Michael
