Subject:Re: SRX-11 Quesstion : Re: RockStar INXS keyboard guy

Hi Jay,

I installed the SRX011 in my XV-88 about 5 months ago and I have to say I am very pleased with the sound. I have been using the SRX02 piano card for several years with the XV-88 and the sounds are good, passable in the studio, but I couldn't get that "satisfying" sound and "feel" on stage that I was looking for. I tweaked the unit with suggestions from folks on the various Roland forums and other EQ tweaking, and it would pass, but I was always looking for better.

When I installed the SRX011 card there was a difference. It has more sustain than the SRX02 and it has that "woody" sound and resonance that you hear on a grand piano, and with the four samples per note, there is a definite difference. I still had to tweak the EQ on the XV-88 to get the sound I was looking for, but now on stage it feels good and it sounds good.

I compared the piano sounds in the Motif Rack and a Yamaha P-200 and the piano sounds in the SRX011 are as good or slightly better ( for what I am looking for).

I friend of mine installed in his Roland G-70 and I listened to him the other nite at a concert and it sounded great! It definitely has that rich grand piano sound.

The sounds are completely different on the SRX011 than the SRX-02. I find that the patches on the 11 are much more usable for my applications.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Murray

Hi,
Hope this isn't too far off topic, but the mention of the Roland
SRX-11 card in the article below got me interested and I think someone
in the group has used an XV-88 as I have for a number of years.I got
it for the hammer action keyboard more than for the sound but I then
added the SRX-02 card hoping to get a really good piano sound.I am
disappointed with the card because the full pianos don't sound smooth
as you strike the keys harder.I think the samples switch and sound
kind of wierd.I'm wondering if anyone has used the SRX-11 card and can
comment on it's performance. If this is what I've heard from the Rock
Star INXS house band it sounded very good to me (as does just about
everthing these guys touch). But after the Roland hype about the SRX-02
I'm sceptical.
Thanks for any info.
Jay
