Subject:Re: EMU Classic Keys - not all bad...
i had one - sold it 3 years ago. i thought it was kinda lacking (fakish) in
many areas but the b3 stuff actually sounded pretty good. there was one
patch that absolutely nailed the percussive 'green-eyed-lady' sound. some
decent doors sounding pianos on there as well. in fact i think that - 'l.a.
woman' is part of the built-in demo. somehow, i don't remember any
mellotron stuff. the best way that i've found to duplicate a specific
mellotron sound (that is - the sound from the beginning of strawberry
fields) is to use a flute patch sample in the lower register - it is almost
exact. as far as elton john mellotron stuff - i'd have to hear the patch
(tape) in the song - a lot of that stuff was very studio processed after the
fact (like the beatles).
