if you've had much studio or live gig experience with a Hammond/Leslie setup, you would be able to tell what a good leslie sounds like or at least what pro key players end up getting out of their rigs. Then go to your Hammond dealer and listen to the new ones and decide for yourself, the sound you hear and have heard. Leslie parts are readily available even for the older leslies as long as you don't get too vintage conscious. some don't like leslies that are too new for the same reasons guitar players like vintage guitars and amps. as with all equipment there are lemons so new may or may not be trouble free as opposed to a well maintained older leslie. go for the sound first and there are support groups and parts suppliers who can help with the rest. learn to work on your own leslie if you're so inclined and you will have some assurance your leslie will work. we're talking motors, belts, speakers. the amps are another matter but new amps can be had for $500-600 or rebuilt and again someone online can help you with getting your amp fixed if you decide to go used.
