Yeah I think Peaches may have bought Budget Tapes and Records. Peaches was big in the NW. Fruit crates for albums. You remember! We should have a huge discussion about Tom Scholtz. I played "Smokin'" and "Long Time". Great stuff. They say he used a spinet Hammond! Amazing tone on those records.

Norm,

Budget Tapes & Records?....now it would be called Bargin CDs & MP3s!
In the Great Lakes area it was Peaches Records. Spend half my paycheck each week their several times. Up till a couple of years ago we had another great place called Harmony House that had about a ozen stores in the Metro Detro area. They went our of business due to the low ball pricing of places like Best Buy. I miss those kinds of places, they were cool for sure.

I still own ever album you mentioned, plus a few hundred more from that era.

Boston's album, ...now their's a awesome player that does not seem to get much attention on this form. The intro jam to Longtime as well as his work on Smokin' has always been a couple of my favorite rock organ jams. Never been able to do any of their songs in a band, cause who can sing that high!! They played Detroit in the summer of 2004 and there was a great article about the band. One point I found very interesting is that Tom's leslie stays in the truck and still mostly in the flight case and his mics it to the PA from there. Says it gives him the best sound that way! Whatever...it must work cause his playing that night was truly smokin'!!!

Budget Tapes & Records was a chain in the 70's up here is Washington. Not sure how much it extended past there. I actually worked there in 1976-76! A great time for classic rock. In the time I worked there these records were released.........
Steve Miller-Fly Like an Eagle, Frampton Comes Alive, Boston's 1st album, Aerosmith-Toys In the Attic, George Benson- Breezin', Wings Over America, Jeff Beck-Wired, etc. Quite a few huge sellers in that great era!

Norm,
"Budget Tapes & Records"?? Wow, that does fire up the old solid state
memory banks... Here in NYC, it was called CHEAP RECORDS & TAPES! And, even for
that time (ca. 1975 - 1978) they WERE cheap... 75c for a 45 rpm... $4 for an
LP. The REALLY big investments like Yessongs probably would've been $8.99.
This was a LOT, but remember the cool extras that LPs used to come with?
Remember the posters, stickers (I THINK stickers - help me out... or were they
found only in Wish You Were Here?) and all else that Dark Side Of The Moon
boasted? And Yessongs had an interesting booklet inside with all the Yes-ites and
their instruments pictured. I last saw this booklet years before I got my
first Hammond, so I don't really remember RW's C-3, but I'm sure it was there!
Speaking of which... Fragile came with a great booklet too. I recently saw,
not sure where, a recent release of a Fragile CD that has the original
booklet; the booklet in which Wakeman thanks "The Yes and roadies"... THE???
Best - Adam
