Subject:Re: OT New music computer?
Receptor still makes more sense Walter; you aren't locked into using one board with zones; that's just what I NEED for that application. Cheaper to buy the Receptor, and it's already made to go; top quality midi interface (no latency), audio interface works great, and will be expanded to 8 outputs via USB and breakaway box, and it's crminally easy to use.
Remember, I wanted to go laptop live. Most of the stuff we like (Hammond, acoustic pianos) take up a BUTTLOAD of CPU power, and you cant ever buy enough.
Any way you want configure your laptop rig you can do with Receptor. Should really consider it.

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop to get up to date on the latest
system requirements for things like B4 II and other music
applications using Windows. I'm still using Windows 98SE on my
desktop that I put in a bigger HD and Athlon XP about equal to a
Pentium 3 a couple of years ago.. pretty dated. My "music only"
laptop is a 5-yr-old Gateways with the big screen for that vintage,
WinME and PIII, 40G HD, 256+128 RAM.. so you get the picture : )
I'm not very tekkie with computer stuff, but learn as I go pretty
well. I do want to get the "best" overall system, good-size screen,
Windows version? - yet still reasonably priced - laptop to cover the
next few years or so. I might wind up using it onstage, like possibly
B4 II, but probably would not go the Muse Receptor route, though I
love the idea and considered it when it was a hot topic not too long
ago. I have enough portable gear I already like to play that covers
all dual-keyboard bases. I don't think I'd want to play everything on
one board with zones at all. I use two or three sounds (3rd would be
bass) up at the same time and work back and forth between them with
two sets of keys.
I'd like some info on who to buy from and what to get that I might be
able to buy online or go to Best Buy or wherever in So. California.
TIA for any help. Walter j
