Not to be a smartass, but it's very enlightening to get an in-depth review of a series of clones from someone who doesn't own any of them. (Did you spend a lot of time with these?) The Electro's percussion seems a little too hot????? I love my Electro, but it's percussion is a weak spot; it doesn't sound too hot ANYWHERE on the keyboard; it needs to come up. The XK3 to my ears, (not to everyone's obviously) has the best C/V out there. It's a little too intense, but it's still there. I agree about the overdrive, but other than B4, I'm not enthused by any of the clone's overdrive.

You didn't mention where the VK7 fits into all of this.

Markweisgram@aol.com wrote: I tend to agree with Walter J. Soundwise, I prefer the Roland VK8 to the
XK-3 , Nord Electro and Korg CX3. Ditto for the older version of the B-4 ,
though I am anxiously awaiting the new version.

Its just my opinion but I think that the VK8 has superior chorus vibrato to
any clone on the market. It also has great overdrive and one of the better
leslie sims out there . Also the percussion tapering in the top octave is
accurate. Every time I hear a Nord Electro the percussion seems a little too hot
in the upper octave. And XK3 owners, please forgive me but the chorus vibrato,
overdrive and leslie sim just did not inspire me to fork over 2K plus for
one of these.

Nevertheless I still do not own a VK8 or VK8m. There are triggering issues
for me with the VK8 keyboard. Which leaves the VK8m, with all its editing
mysteries and need for the Soundside upgrade to get true leslie sim bypass.

From Walter's report it seems that the Soundside upgrade offfers even more
chorus vibrato possibilities than come with the stock VK8/VK8m. I sure would
like to hear all this, but you pretty much have to own a unit to find out
what the upgrade can do.

Nevertheless I have still not made a decision to get a VK8m. I may wind up
getting one if I could control some of the features using a VK7 as a
controller. For one, I would like to be able to control the leslie sim with a
footswitch - which the VK8m apparently will not do.

And the idea of editing via LED's still frustrates me. On my VK7 I can edit
on the fly! It's great for changing percussion volume and EQ parameters.

(Still hoping Roland comes out with a clone with an editing screen for next
year )
