Subject:CX-3 Revision Identification

Thanks to everyone who replied to my "Hammond vs. Korg vs. Roland ..." post - it was very helpful. I will definitely want to try a clone before I buy it, but it will be a little hard to try it in the setting where it will be used. One thing I have going for me is my lack of experience: I will probably be happy with just about anything I get since I do not have a discriminating ear (yet). One thing I did not mention in my original post is I will likely be buying a used clone. My son wants a Yamaha S90ES so that will set me back quite a few bucks.

It sounds like this is a Nikon vs. Cannon vs. whatever kind of situation. One thing that seems to be common in a lot of comments is that Hammond's simulated Leslie is not all that great. I am in the situation where the simulator is all I will be able to use. Probably nothing is better than a real Leslie, but that is not an option for me at this point.

OK, here is what I WAS going to do. I was looking into a used XK-2. The price was great at about $800-$900. Then I looked more into it to find that a lot of people feel the Leslie simulator is not that great. The one guy I know who has an XK-2 runs it into a real Leslie. Also, I do not have an XK-2 I can play to see if I really like it. Then I came across a used CX-3 that is for sale for about $1200 including the expression pedal. That one I have played and it seemed nice. Also, many of you and posts elsewhere have stated that the CX-3 was pretty nice all around. The one somewhat non-positive comment I could remember about the CX-3 was that it did not have a Leslie output. That would mean if I got the CX-3 I could not upgrade to a real Leslie with it in the future, but that's OK.

At this point I am wondering if the CX-3 that is for sale has Version 2 firmware or not. Is that identified somehow on the display when the unit is turned on? I will try to check that out since folks say Version 2 is much nicer.
