Subject:RE: Clone amps

I like the 450s for piano but as a solo amp for a clone I'm not sure
there is an amp that will make a clone sound decent.
I'm currently using the 450 for piano and as the bottom end for a
2101. The 12 jusat don't cut the hammond low end so I'm trying the
550. it sounded strange to me last night in the studio so I'll give
it the club test tomorrow. If it doesn't pass muster then I'll go
back to the 450. The 450 is a great cabinet but not good as the only
cabinet for clone work.
I've been playing B3s and Leslies for too many years and it really
takes some serious p[atience to deal with all of this.
An individuals perspective needs to be honored when talking about all
of these choices. I try to respect everyone's right to their
opinion. The bottom line is that if y ou like it and it works for
you what else matters.
After trying just about everything I have come to the conclusion that
any decent combo amp with a full range 15" speaker can do fine for a
Hammond if the correct frequencies are covered.
On two occasions I had to play a clone through cheap one or two
speaker configs. No horns just speakers.
Don't ever discount a box with no horns. You'll be happily surprised
at the smooth sound you get especially with a clone.
Leslies are front loaded and therein lies the issue. Horn boxes are
front loaded consequently you are never going to get a "realistic"
Leslie sound with a horn shooting out. It really has to be padded
back. If you EQ it down then you're going to lose your Hammond
highs. It's an evil battle that we'll all continue to fight.
We just have to get close to what we're willing to listen to in order
to save weight and space.
