Subject:VK8 glitch long gone
The electronic oddity with Roland's VK8 organ was, just like the V5,
you can pull other drawbars out in a preset to add more sounds. On
the VK8 when you switched to another preset these extra drawbars
still pulled were, rightfully, ignored.. but after playing for awhile
on some units, the extra drawbars would start to "morph" back in -
talk about weird! Roland fixed this with a v2.1 patch midi file to
download and play into the organ/module with its simple SMF player =
all fixed, never happened again. For my money the VK8M is the best of
all Hammonds because there's more than 2 or 3 Hammond/Leslies in
there and its got REVERB, spring reverb! And the Rotary sim is as
good as the Electro only adjustable which makes it a "hair" better to
me, although I can take either or both modules, VK8M or NE2R out to
play, depending on the other musicians and the expected playlist. I
can let out all the stops and use my old Fantom for a controller with
SRX/SRJV card expansion and both modules, or just get low down blues
funky with my sneaky little Casio 88 and the NE2R, mainly electric
pianos with a touch of A100/122 for a surprise. The V5 has as good as
these or any raw Hammond sound yet created, but for me gave too many
midi problems = I always play at least ep's at the same time - other
brand/extra midi was a must so I gave the V5 module up with a tear in
my eye ..go for it Mike! : ) Walter j
