Yeah that was me. And for about 5 years (ending in 2000), I did employ 2 full-time roadies for my latin rock band Rico! This wasnt stupid spending either; during the summer months, it was quite regular for my band to do 4-7 gigs on a weekend. On a typical weekend, we would do a fest on Friday evening, load up and do a bar at night; on Saturday, we would have a fest gig (and sometimes two) and then a club gig; on Sunday we would do another festival. One crazy fourth of July weekend we actually did 3 fests in one day, then a club gig that nite. The roadies worked their butts off, but got paid per gig, and they doubled as our merch guys; I paid them 10% of all merch sold, so they were motivated.
Of course, I was the worst offender as far as gear went too; b3 chopper, 2 leslies, 2x12space midi racks, A90 controller, JD800 synth, and a pair of 1x15/2"horn speaker cabinets, and a cable/pedal case that weighed about 60lbs.
*sigh* Those were the days......

a career that some accomplish with a left foot or two, while still
