You can take apart the pedal very easily. Loose the screw on the base
to remove the pedal. Now you take out the shaft by unscrewing the 10mm
nut und pulling it out. Now you pull you the housing, which contains
the potentiometer. The housing has 2 parts, so take it apart. Now you
see the potentiometer, now it's prime time for your dad. Just let him
exchange the wires that go to the high side and the slider. Put back
all parts in reverse order and the pedal will look the same as before
but will work smoothly . I've done that several times.
