Subject:Re: Newbie Questions
I don't see anything wrong with taking advantage of a policy that is in writing by a place like Guitar Center. There is nothing wrong or unethical with it if your intention is to test drive it in the privacy of your own home. I agree it's totally wrong to take new gear, gig with it, and then return it (I don't think anyone was advocating that practice during this thread???).
However, it's up to YOU the consumer to make sure what your getting is factory sealed in the box. I never take any box that looks like it's been opened or resealed. It's common sense IMO. It's Guitar Center's problem if they choose to box up a return and resell it as new: shame on them.
Some of us don't have unlimited sources of cash to just stockpile gear on a whim. Guitar Center's return 30 day satisfaction policy doesn't apply to all there keyboard gear anyway. I think the policy is just another marketing tool. GC is out to make a profit just like anybody else in the music retail business. The reason they offer it is because in the end they know it will help them sell more product.
I say do it...just be careful, get it in writing, and follow the policy to the letter.
