Subject:Re: XK-3 tubes, Speakeasy tubes

Sometimes I wonder if the Speakeasy adulation doesn't go a little bit
overboard. People speak of it as thought it provides the greatest
sound on the planet. Does anyone with a real tube Leslie find that
the Speakeasy give them that same sound?

I own a Speakeasy rackmount w/Barker, an xk-3, a Leslie 860 (solid-
state), and a Leslie 145 (tube). Nothing in my experience sounds like
the overdriven Leslie amp for a distortion point of view, though the
Motion-Sound Pro-3t comes pretty close. I find that the SE gives me
grit, but not that same sound. I wonder if it is possible for a
preamp to give the same type of distortion as a power amp like that
in the 145.
I know this is a religious topic and I run the risk of being drummed
out of the group :-) , but I really would like to hear from others
who have experience with real Leslie distortion.
