Subject:Clone Wheel - off topic question for A-70 and/or Motif owners


Hey everybody,
I have been using the Roland A-70 for about a year now to control a
Virus B
synth, General Music Real Piano expander, Voce V5, other various
modules
and also as a second manual for my Nord Electro 73.

I just picked up a Yamaha Motif Rack ES and can't figure one issue in
regard
to program changes. How do I send a Mode Change Command from the A-70
to switch the rack ES from Voice Mode to Performance Mode? I've had
no
problems setting up performances on the A-70 with bank and program
change commands for all the Motif voice and user banks, but I'm not
sure how
to send a 'Mode' Change command...

The Yamaha manual says "When switching the mode (e.g. changing the
Voice Mode to the Performance Mode), transmit the proper Mode Change
command (system exclusive) before the Bank Select MSB to the Motif
Rack
ES"

I've been looking through the manuals and am wondering if the Device
ID has
something to do with this. The A-70 has options of 17-32 and the
Motif has '1-
16, all and off'.

Can anyone enlighten me on this? Now that I think about it, I've
never also
been able to figure out how to switch voice mode to multi mode on my
Virus B
synth from the A-70 either. Reply to my email address below.
