"The Night Chicago Died" is a better song than "We Built This City". Just to
put things in proper perspective, so is Cher's "Half Breed". So is Chuck
Berry's "My Ding-a-Ling". So is Barney's (the purple dinosaur) "I Love You". So
is Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe Through the Tulips", as is Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the
Sun" and Britney Spears' "Hit Me Baby One More Time". OK, I feel better now.

I agree that the Airplane's album Surrealistic Pillow was their best, and
Crown of Creation and Volunteers were pretty damn good, too (remember Nicky
Hopkins' killer piano work on those?), but you'll have to admit that the Starship's
song "Miracle" is a remarkable recording -- and possibly Marty Balin's best
vocal performance ever. That song defies all pop music conventions, yet
manages to be an almost perfect pop masterpiece. Who was that sax player? That
solo is brilliant, as were the strange, schizophrenic background vocals.
