Subject:Starting to hate my Pro-3T
Cliff,
I'm with you bro! I'm fairly new to this group and love all the
input and advise from the more expierenced users and have tried
several of their choices. I have a XK-3 and a Yamaha Motif that I
have tried thru just about every combination of amps, fake leslies,
real leslies and have come the the conclusion that they all suck
except the true Leslies, meaning the OLD (145,122)ones. Had the
Mackie SRM 450 and it was kinda OK on the organ's lower end, but
added a very noticeable "coloration" to the piano and synth sounds,
tried several mixers and eq units to try and clean up the sound.
Still sounded...wrong. Also tried, Roland KC550, JBL EON, Fender
Tweads, Leslie 2121 top and 2101 bottom, Sumo, Motion Sound Pro-
145..even tried my gutiar player's old Marshall! ( now that was
loud!)The new Leslie upper unit (2121) was the best of the bunch,
but still was not close to the real deal. I was trying to not have
to haul around a 150lb Leslie and gave up on that idea. I am in the
process of making a "road" cabinet for my Leslies' guts. It will be
the exact dememsions and all the drivers and motors will bolt right
up, but will look more like a flight case than a "wood Leslie". I'm
going to build a standalone case for the Leslie amp to help cut down
on the weight and save the amp from too much banging around when the
Leslie is hauled. I'm even building in a dolly assembly with
carpeted side runners to make it easy to go up and down stairs. When
I get the unit done I will post some pictures of it so anyone can
check it out. I'm considering building them for resale as well. As
for the piano and synth it sounds the best going thru our Bose PA
system...by far! If we play a gig where we do not need our PA and I
need a keyboard amp I'll play those thru my Roland KC550, which
sounds as good as any of the other amps I've tried. Of course, all
this is my opinion, and just like a rear end, we all have opinions!
Good luck in your search.
Mackie SRM450 for the bottom. I recently upgraded from a CX-3 to a
XK-
3. What seemed acceptable before now bugs me. My biggest complaint
is
the fake low rotor. Using 888000000 most of the sound will naturally
go through the bass unit. This yields a dreadful AM effect, not at
all as charming as a real rotor. Recently this is driving me back to
a real Leslie. Some of you guys rave about your Leslie 21 units. How
do you stand it :-)

p.s. oh yeah, and the unit doesn't have enough power>
