I spent 24 years at Capitol Records and got to be very good friends
with Bob. I was a fan of his from way back in the 60s....and the
Smoking Ops album is still one of my favs. And that Van Winkle B3
solo on "Carpenter" is one of the all-time classics. When Capitol
signed Bob again in 1975 I spent many hours with him on the road.
What a great guy...and what a show. As far as his "over produced
ballads"...well, I think they are some of the finest pop songs of the
70s and 80s. I loved his raw early music but the hits are what almost
every artis strives for and Bob got his in spades. Well deserved too
from a solid rock n roll guy who paid his dues for many years. Bob is
taking it easy now with his family, raising the kids he always wanted
and now has. But I have a feeling that one of these days you may just
see Bob again on the stage.
