Really no generalisation is woth a damn and that includes this one-
But-
You guys must be out for a beer when Joey plays ballads!
Even the comping behind the guitar player will have Leslie.
Have you not heard the famous Joey "bounce run" upwards with three or more notes skipped along? Generally would be far the best with a spin and plenty of drawbars out!
Admittedly on many of Joey's CD, it is the soulful rendition of the ballads that impresses me.
Likewise for Tony Monaco.
Other reasons for rotors stopped or slow would include:
First three out with perc does fine without spin.
Bass can be stronger without the spin.
It reduces the boring potential of using only spin or none.
