Subject:Re: OT: Live Recording
Hammond to capture stereo sound, I would like to use some type of digital
recorder and mics (using a mixer if necessary) to record the music, then
transfer it to my computer harddrive to burn a CD.
Well, I understand your philosophy, but when I looked into putting together
a home studio the two-step approach you describe just didn't meet the
practicality test. It takes very little money to make a rudimentary
computer-based music station, there is a universe of options when you can
adjust the recording on the fly, and its just plain more work to copy to a
second device. So I would respectfully argue that the system you will be
most satisfied with will end up being computer based from the get go. Most
of the difference in quality is going to emanate from your preamps and mics
in either case, so don't skimp in those areas.
