Subject:Re: Brian Auger DVD and "his sound"
I own an Electro and have never been totally happy with the key click.
It sounds too static and "plastic" to me. Comparing my Electro
side-by-side with my A-100 makes this obvious. I know what the
original poster is talking about. You can use the treble control on
the Electro to try rolling off the highs but that won't fix the static
and "ticky" tone of the click. Part of the problem is just that you
can't fully replicate the dynamic nature of the click of a real
Hammond with its multiple key contacts. But the CX-3 and B4 software
clone seem to have a more authentic sounding key click than the
Electro. The XK-3's seems better, too, although I didn't really focus
on that when I was trying it out.
In terms of the shrillness in the top end, though, I think it depends
on what you're running through. Even if Auger isn't running through a
Leslie, the B3 still has it's preamp, so it might be hard to make a
direct comparison with clones. Maybe a clone with its sim turned off
but going through something like a Speakeasy would be a fairer comparison?
