Subject:Re: Speakeasy configuration........

Norm,
The Speakeasy definitely reacts better with a hotter signal, but unfortunately most of the Clones don't put out as hot of a signal
as the Speakeasy would like, and there are different solutions for each Clone. Bruce Wahler (Ashby Solutions)
http://music.ashbysolutions.com/speakesy.html
developed the "Barker" which is a small additional preamp/gain circuitboard actually installed inside the Speakeasy to bring the
Clone's gain up to decent level. I believe the Barker will work with any of the Clones, but your best bet is to call Steve at
Speakeasy (717) 292-0814 and see what he recommends. With an Electro, one trick is to use the headphone output, which is hotter
than the main outs. Your "mixer before the Speakeasy" is obviously another solution, but another way to accomplish the same thing
with a mixer is to insert the Speakeasy into the effects loop so you can dial in how much Speakeasy you want for each individual
keyboard (i.e., you may not find it desirable to run acoustic pianos through the Speakeasy). In my rig I run my Clone (was a CX-3,
now an Electro) into a PreSonus Blue Tube first and then into the Speakeasy, which to my ears makes a big difference. A Barker
would be simpler and cheaper, but I was already doing this before the Barker was developed (and I already own the PreSonus).
