Subject:Re: Hammond/Nord two-manual?

I got a kick out of your post, Van Man. I have been lugging around almost the same rig (XK3 on top of a P80.) I was starting to bitch about the drama at my weekly rehearsal so I bought myself (thanks Wife, for some Christmas cash) an Electro 2 73 to take to rehearsals and small gigs.

NOTE: For about $180, I got a Kurzweil Micropiano off of ebay -- I will probably leave the P80 at home indefinitely now -- first impression is that I can have my Wurly and Rhodes sounds, double manual XK3 and a decent piano too. I won't know how well the Kurz does until I hear it in a live mix, but I think it will work better than the P80 did.

I sat the electro below the XK3 for my last gig, but was disappointed the manuals don't line up if you "center" them above each other. As an "old" Hammond console player, this isn't optimal for me, but I will either live with it or continue to jog the electro a couple of inches to the right and forget the box idea.

I also have played a really tight gig with the electro ran through my speakeasy and 2101 and was very impressed.

Subject: [CWSG] Hammond/Nord two-manual?

The honeymoon continues with my XK-3, BUT...
Hauling it up and down stairs to band practices is getting old, so I
jumped on a fellow cloner's Electro 73 which recently went up for sale
(thanks Mark!). Now I can leave my Hammond/Yamaha rig set up at home
and take the Electro for practices; much less time and effort, great
organ sounds, and the infamous Nord piano will be adequate for the
half-dozen songs I do on piano.
But there's more...the Electro's width is just a hair less than the
distance between the inside of the XK-3's endblocks. If I can build a
wooden "box" with the ends flush with the Hammond's, similar to the
wood structure in the XK system's lower manual, the Nord could slide
right underneath, the distance between the two keybeds would be just a
little more than on a B3, and I'd have a killer two-manual organ
option. Holy versatility Batman!
I'm chubbin', this could really rock.
Keep it swingin' in 2006, and thanks again to the group for a non-stop
flood of info!
