Subject:dummy B3
Hi all,
As far as I understand, the Hammond XK-3 system around a wooden ´B3 style´cabinet with the lower manual is available in the US only. Here in Europe we have the lower manual in a box (XLK-3) that fits snugly under the XK-3 complete with metal pins/pegs.
I already ordered one since I feel they are/will be soon much harder-to-find than the XK-3 itself. Will post my comments as soonm as I have it up and running (didn´t order the XK-3 yet).
I am thinking about applying the ´dummy grand´ - idea (= a light dummy grand piano housing a digital 88 key piano) on the Hammond XK-3/XLK-3 ´sandwich´.
Trying to improve on the XK-3 system cabinets offered in the US,
I thought about a hefty support structure with the spun wooden legs, then the keyboards sandwiched, then a light B3 ´dummy´cabinet sliding-in from above to avoid the problems with the wooden flanks and the less-than-authentic cutouts at the rear which is fully visible for the audience. Just need to come up with a way to make it all easy to assemble/disassemble for the road. IMHO a hefty B3-like ´structure´ looks way better on stage than just a couple of keyboards on a strong X- QuikLok type support.
Just thought I'd share my thoughts.
Any input highly appreciated :)
Chris
