I don't know what you want the controller for, but Evolution makes a few interesting non-keyboard controllers. I just ordered the X-session by Evolution so that I can send program and bank change info to my Doepfer LMK4+. I don't like the LMK's layout with the control surface and LCD all the way at the left end of the kybd; it's hard to see, and the dec layout doesn't really correspond to the hex display. So I bought the smaller of the two applicable controllers. (X-session and UC-33 I believe). They have assignable knobs and a numeric keypad, and a slider, although the UC has multiple sliders. And they're cheap: $119 for the Xsession, and $149 for the UC.

only choice, there's some Edirol 4 to 5 octave MIDI controllers on
eBay new, way less than MSRP, that'll do anything plus play like a
Roland keyboard, which they are, for around $200, 7 or 8 lbs - but
