Subject:Planning on huying a B3 clone soon
Hi all,
Just to introduce myself:
Recently I joined a gospel choir as arranger/organist. I am currently playing a small portable Hammond I purchased in 2000 as a used item for what I found a great price (incuding transport to Lisbon, Portugal): the P 100 S (1972 tube/tonewheel model assembled in Denmark, very similar to all tube portable spinets like the L 202 or Porta B) plus Solton Leslie cabinet. It sounds great but I am planning on a purchasing a B3 clone since:
1) the organ is not a full 2x five octave manual model like the original B3/C3 models
and sounds thinner lacking power in the high notes and extension/body on the low
end.
2) it is very heavy by todays standards (way over 100 kg).
3) even though well maintained, oiled and with a new set of tubes, it is fragile and will
eventually break down sooner or later.
I did some research and tested some B3 clones (Oberheim Viscount, Roland VK7/VK8 and the old Suzuki Hammond XB - I still didn't test the newer Korg CX3/BX3 and Hammond XK and New B3 - can't find any for testing). I didn't like any of the models I tested even remotely regarding sound and response/playability. I know there is no easy solution. I sincerely hope to find the right information to make a decision in the 'CloneWheel Yahoo group'.
Thanks in advance - Happy Holidays 2005!
