Subject:Re: How to Beef Up a used Roland KC-300 or 350

Walter,

What do you mean when you say the woofer went "flat" acoustically? Are talking about some sort of break down with the cone??

good amp cheap:

Probably the main weak point with these otherwise pretty nice stereo-
link etc, mid-size, *inexpensive used, Roland KC300's and KC350's is
the woofer. I was just looking on eBay and these amps are ready to
buy in the $200+ range. All they need is a good woofer to replace the
Roland cheeze cone. Parts Express carries the Eminence Beta-12a
(8ohms) for $58.19 plus a reasonable shipping fee. This is the same
speaker as in the Motion Sound KT-80 and Pro-145, and was for
Speakeasy's Road Leslie last time I checked. If you want a really
good amp cheap, buy one (or two) KC300's or KC350's used and it's an
easy drop-in to swap one of the Eminence full-range speakers in.
They're rated at 200 Watts RMS. Roland fibs a little about their
power output, but the older KC300 puts out around 100 watts and the
KC350 closer to 120 watts - two of these with this speaker upgrade
are killer amps even for fairly large venues, because the woofer
won't go acoustically flat on you. And of course, there's line outs
for the PA if needed.

The other problem most often heard from owners of these amps is that
they buzz or vibrate. Guess what.. loose screws! Go over the exterior
of the amp and tighten all the screws up without stripping them -
especially the grille cover screws, usually the ones making the noise
= no more buzz. Cheap fix, great amp. I played through a pair of
KC300's for almost two years, and sold them because the woofers "went
flat," before I got into MS gear and Eminence speakers. I'll cross-
post this if not too many would mind. Walter j
