Subject:Re: "Beefing up" a clonewheel... (BBE)
Slight return to a not too distant thread: Ed, do you recall an overly
bright upper register with your older BBE 422 and 862 Sonic Maximizers
compared to the midrange and bass when they sounded perfect? With my
older mini-BBE 264R and the IU 482 I pulled from my gear stash (which
turned out to be nearly same vintage) - Electro and VK7 organs seem
shrill enough to back off some draws a little, and a couple of piano
sounds I use are almost too bright at the top. When I adjust the
Process level lower, there's some loss of the BBE "magic" on the rest
of the keyboard. This wasn't the case with my older keyboards (think
mid-90's Roland : ) when I bought these, probably 2000-2001, and hookup
was consistently at the end of my signal path. I'm thinking maybe since
they are the 1st generation chip and models directed mainly at guitar
players, that's the reason. Anyway I found a good deal on an 882 (not
882i, only new model sold now) and am waiting for it to arrive with
TRS/phone plug cables in hand - probably that's the cure. Any tips/info
would be appreciated. TIA ~ Walter
