The horn is probably the greatest part of the process. Almost any sound sent through that conical horn "sounds like a Leslie." MS products have been either crossed at 800Hz, or allowed to do so by a switch, for some time now.
For the record, I don't feel that the new Ham-Suz driver sounds much like the original V21 at all. It has way too much high end, and it doesn't contribute to the overdrive sound in any positive way. There are better sounding drivers, although many of them are not available in 16 ohms.
