Thanks. I own a 147 and a 47 (that I rewired to be a 147) myself.
Perhaps I didn't make it clear in the original post, but the amp
worked fine before I put the "fresh" tubes in and after I removed
them and put the old ones back in.
I suspect the only answer is to discard the offending tube. I was
just hopeful that the obvious wasn't necessarily the case.
If you can use a soldering iron, you should consider recapping your
amp. The parts aren't terribly expensive and you just put the
replacement in exactly like the original. If they melted beyond
recognition, I may be able to share images of my amp. I slapped it
on my flatbed scanner when I was working on it. I may be able to
find those images for you. Also, I think I have a pdf of the 47
schematic somewhere.
My conclusion -- the obvious -- the hot tube is toast -- pretty to
look at, but toast.
