I have to say that I tend to agree.
I haven't "loved" anything I've heard in a 15"+tweeter combination. There's a hollowness
and phasiness to the sound. Yeah, they get down low, but the midrange is crucial for
keyboards and that's what bothers me.
I am splitting off to the house, too; so I'm looking for immediate presence on stage, not
necessarily thump. I don't want to be shrill, either, but I don't like that boomy bass, hollow
mid, carved-out sound either. Yuk.
I reviewed the Mackie SRM450s for EM magazine, and I used it for the Academy Awards
onstage band, but I was in no way pushing them. At low to mid volumes they were a bit
bottom-heavy (carved out), and I could hear the compression kicking in when really
pushed when I was testing them at home. The G2s sounded very similar to me when direct
A/Bing them recently.
They might do fine, but I'm curious if there is something still better. I just know that
Roland did not cut it at all.
Thanks everyone,
Rob
