Subject:Re: powered monitors

Rob,
I've been using this set up which has TONS of headroom great fidelity
and flexibility for any situation from practice room to festival
stages. I use a Carvin KB1000 powered keyboard head with a JBL M-
pro 415. The M-Pro has a 15 and a horn, but you could easily use a
12" & horn combo or even a coaxial 12" to save space. I have never
clipped this amp and have run it with some LOUD guitar players (using
my Sensaphoncs 15db earplugs) and it has great tone.

Recently this amp saved our arses on an outdoor gig. The
supplied "soundman" plugged the PA into a 220V plug. Not sure how he
did that, but safe to say the amp smoked and we were PA-Less just
minutes before downbeat. When trying to figure out how to salvage
the gig, I decided to run one side of the Carvin amp for keys and one
side for PA. Damned if it didn't work and it sounded pretty good
for the PA! No FX, but hey I was glad we were able to salvage the
gig.

I originally tried the 2x10" & horn config with the same amp offered
as a combo, but didn't like the voicing of the speakers. Missing
some high end. Loving the design of the amp, I opted for a two-
piece setup. This amp will run stereo, has a built in x-over and
XLR outs for FOH. I was leery of Carvin's quality, but have had
this thing for a couple of years now - have traveled with it and
thrown it around a bit and it it works like a champ.

I was using the old Roland Cube 100 keyboard amp that was way harsh
and would just begin to clip in loud situations. Not sure what
components are shared with the KC-550.

My $.025 - Hope this helps.

Albert
