Subject:Vancouver-Darryl Havers-Brickhouse

A couple weeks ago I put a post out wondering who were the cool bands to see in Vancouver BC. My wife and I were planning a short trip up there. I got a couple responses. One from listmember Darryl Havers. He invited us to see him play with his band Brickhouse at a couple different venues. His Sat. night gig is at a place called the Yale Hotel where there is a house A100 and Leslie. We couldn't make that one but went to the Fairview Pub and saw he and the band. These guys and Darryl were really great! They play mostly original material in the funky/groove meets the blues vein with a great singer with great lyrics. The have house gigs at both of these clubs and hardly play covers! Says something for the music scene up there! Brickhouse does not play "Brickhouse"!! Anyway Darryl is a great guy and monster player. He was using a V-Combo thru a Leslie 145 which was very cool sounding. Also a KORG Prophesy synth for trading fours with the guitar player. Anyway check out his mp3's at http://www.brickhousetheband.com/ "The Bug' has some great Hammond playing on it. Great lyrics. Also "Thank You" is a really good. . Very refreshing to hear a cool band in a club that should be selling tons of records. Darryl told me the Hammond stuff on the mp3's are a Hammond RT2 with Trek ll perc.
