Hi John, I can't say I could recommend using less power for your organ than
the 40 watts or so that a Leslie amp would put out. When we are talking about
using low power amps we are talking tube amps only. Tube amps sound great
when driven hard, especially with guitar. The grinding sound we love so much
with our Hammonds comes from overdriving the tube amp in the Leslie. Most solid
state amps sound like crap when driven hard. That's why clonewheelers end up
using high powered amps/speakers to power their systems. If you start
clipping a solid state amp, not only will it destroy your speakers but it just does
not sound good to our ears. When the 40 watt Leslie tube amp is clipped it
sounds great, and is apparently much louder than a 40 watt solid state amp
would be. The great thing about some of the low power tube amps for guitar is
that they sound huge, giving the player the sound he is looking for with no
sacrifices, no Pods or other digital devices at a volume level that is not ear
splitting. This way the guitar players are happy and so is everyone else.
