Dear exp,
I sincerely hope you find what you are looking for. Being a band musician
is a tough road, no two ways about it.
I've gotten to the age where I feel life is too short to go deaf from band
sound that is so mushed together that it doesn't even sound like music. Sure,
bar people can dance to the thump-thump, but why choose to stay up all night
lifting sound reinforcement gear just to make what amounts to a deafening
noise? Having come from the audiologist a few months ago I know I'm still okay,
but no one has endless ear cells to burn, so I've become pretty strict about
what I will play these days.
I always kick myself when I end up at a gig that turns into a noise orgy. I
still end up in some of those, but I do my best to anticipate and avoid in
advance.
