Yeah, I just got back from a week at a jazz camp, where I played
nothing but acoustic piano, the guitarists all played through little
teeeny tweed amps w/no distortion, and sounded great. Other than that,
nothing but cymbols, saxes and horns to have to fight against :-)
Touching on some other related themes in this thread (or whatever it
has morphed into!) I just played with my new SRM 450 this past weekend
with the DEAD/Phish/Allmans/Garcia band group I play with. Small
stage, so I just used the Mackie with my Nord Electro... kept the rack
and other controller keyboard in the car. This meant no speakeasy
stereo rack, Kurz PC2 rack, Reverb, stereo monitoring, etc. It just
sounded excellent! The leslie sim is very fine in mono (yes the swirl
from stereo monitoring is inspiring, but...) and the overdrive sounds
much better through the crispy SRM's than my big rig. I also unearthed
a rhodes I hadn't used much before - because the preset I had it used
in had strange effects on it. When I tweaked it into a clean preset,
it was killer. I'll have to use the 'tool' to remember which sample it
was :-( The piano still blew. I'll have to dump the mono steinway in
there, I'm done with stereo for a while!
