Subject:Re: Q's re Pro3TM/Low Pro & Pro 145 Stereo Pair...dumb guitarists
Oh, I did that one night. I was playing with this group of hacks in a
terrible classic rock band in So Cal... This guitar player was an old
recovering alchie who played through a Marshall and was always too loud and
raving about his "tone". Well, it sounded like shit 100% of the time... and
what's worse, he was really a terrible musician.
So when I decided to quit this band I set up a twin stack of SRM450's and
played all the organ featured songs at an unbelievable volume... When he
said that he was having a hard time hearing his own guitar I responded with
"So how does it feel to be overwhelmed with sound?" He had no idea what I
was talking about.
On the other hand, a guitar player like Terry Medeiros, who can also play
loud, is a pleasure to listen to because he is a real musician. But
unfortunately, there are very few like him... Sometimes volume can be an
effective tool... Its just that so few have the basic ability to play the
instrument like a musician, so they rely on blowing people away.
I am through playing with hacks. My advice to my brothers and sisters here
on this list: if you think that you have an uncontrollable band member, make
a stand early. Tell the band that either he/she changes, is replaced, or you
are leaving the band. Good, dependable keyboard players are rare...
Certainly rarer than good guitar players. If they sincerely want keyboards
in the band, you will get your way. Otherwise they are not worth playing
with....
