i live in detroit. in general, where do you see gospel organists? i'm assuming that in
church, it doesn't work to go sit right behind the organ player. ;) i'm actually a pastor
myself, so sunday is my busiest day anyway - i don't get to visit other church services very
often. it's kind of funny, the bands i play in are with younger guys from church (think
green day) who scoff at instrumental music in general and jazz/blues in particular. ;) our
church worship band is in the "modern praise band" vein - basically a jam band, or "hippie
music" as our critics call it. so i'm not really around the jazz or gospel scene. back when i
was, in the early 90's (in ypsilanti, 25 miles east of detroit), i was playing jazz trumpet
and had no interest in organ. anyway, thanks for the tips - i'll google gospel organ and
look for tony monaco.

(any organ players in d-town know where i can go to get schooled?)
