Subject:My "SOUNDS OF HAMMOND" CD Is Defective
I believe I'll quote the brilliantly-named Jimmy Smith recording of recent
years... DAMN!! And, I got it after clicking something like "Free Stuff" at
the Hammond 'site... so, no recourse here. And this really s-cks, 'cause the
tracks are GOOD, a lot of them... I love the first one (which I can still
listen to, 'cause the defect comes on around the halfway point of the thing), an
obvious Smith homage and a fine one. I think I can listen as far as the XK-3
tracks, but afterwards, it does that damn CD defect thing of skipping ad
nauseum; this continues throughout the disc, and obliterates all tracks that
follow. Sh'hight (the Etruscan word for this less than polite expletive)! You
can see what looks like a drop of water on the playing side of the disc. And I
ripped the disc (almost literally) into the computer. Twice... I thought
MAYBE the drive was just getting ornery for a second, but nope. Actually I'm
glad it was the CD and not my drive! Anyway the thing WAS free, and I DO get
about 4 or 5 tracks out of it.
And don't be discouraged, anybody, from ordering it! Norm, I repeat - I
believe mine took a solid month, plus, to arrive; if yours hasn't showed up
since you posted re this the other day, I bet it will. And yours'll probably be
OK.
