Subject:Re: SQUABBLING Pointers?

Jimmy Smith does what I think is squabbling on Mack the Knife on the
Jazz Scene USA 1962 DVD. Besides the sort of trembling movement he also
does a more circular movement that adds grace notes on the top and
bottom.

Besides the squabbling there is good footage of him jumping between
manuals on the Champ, holding one note (for a long time) while playing
others, and doing the one note hammer-on (playing the same note many
times fast) that seems impossible for mere mortals to pull off.

The DVD only has three JS songs. Walk on the Wild Side, Mac the Knife,
and The Champ. The other half of the DVD is the Phineas Newborn Jr Trio
(piano) which I haven't listened to.

The camera work is a little artsy, especially during The Champ - yeah
I'd really like to see a closeup of the drumsticks hitting the cymbal
right now!! But I recommend it.

Does anyone know of any other Jimmy Smith DVDs?

Joe
