Subject:Re: XK-3 & PRO-145

Hey Davin...

I never changed the tubes in the XK3 or Pro145, but my experience, whether using the Pro145, real leslie, or 2101s is to keep the XK3 pre knob low so that it's green or yellow, never more than that. I don't like their idea of distortion...reminds me too much of the MXR Distortion+.

I have been using a Speakeasy with all those options and experimented with not using the Speakeasy, and regardless of which method I choose, I use the amp to handle the overdrive. I'm still tweaking my methodology with the XK3 because I do play with a loud band, and this has been giving me some issues. What I really need is a whole day alone with no homework, baseball or phone calls to sit in my studio and crank the sh#t out of things to find the right result.

I will say this: the 2101 has a very usable "overdrive" knob in the back that actually sounds like a well driven leslie. It needs to be accessible via midi, or at least be put on the front, but midi would be better, especially if you're driving 2 of these (which is what I do when I use them).

This weekend I had a volume blast: XK3 into Speakeasy stereo rack pre with 122 config on one side and 11pin 147 config on the other. I used both channels with a Y cable, and powered my Bulldog leslie and a pair of the 2101s. Now THAT was loud!

And I did keep the XK3 tube at green or yellow, and used the tone knob to drive midrange for more boost.

Sucked carrying all that though.
