You're right....if it doesn't turn on the player, it doesn't mean anything. I used to have a Kurzweil MicroPiano, and I really LIKED the sound of that piece; it sounded quite realistic, although it didn't have the girth of the MKS20. But the PC1x didn't sound anywhere near that good.

Hi Tony,

Your verdict doesn't surprise me. I had the experience of hearing some piano that sounded good to me at Milwaukee Third Ward Jazzfest and was surprised to find ou it was from a Kurzweil Piano module! But Krz probably hasn't improved upon that.

For me there seems to be an oddity that it was hard to improve upon the stock piano in the 2500 or 2600- I mean the daughterboard pianos were not better for me and when using some of the most respected piano samples available it was difficult to get any better. Seems strange when there's all that V A S T technology available there but my opinion is that there is something else that happens in the translation. I have trouble with the 2600 in preventing the reverbs available from lousing up the product! I know of at least one skilled Krz person that bypasses the Krz effects for some other make effects.

With my Promega 3, I really like Piano 3, have no use for any of their others. Probably somebody likes one of the others, can't stand 3 !

I't wouldn't surprise me to
find some performers would get along fine with the PC1x or that the audience woul be fine with it. But if it doesn't turn on the performer how can you do your best?

I bought a P-150 in 1997. I was not playing in a band at the time and for the first few years it saw only light use in my home. This piano weighs in at a hefty 74lbs and I didn't intend on dragging it out to gigs. But for the past year and a half that's what I've been doing. Why haven't I been kind to my aching back and replaced it with a lighter unit? Because I couldn't find one I liked any better. I've been playing quite a bit with two pretty rockin bands and I beat the snot outta the keys on some tunes. It has taken a few whacks being moved around especially since I couldn't find a case to fit it for awhile. Through all the abuse there has never been a single time when I ever had any problem whatsoever with this instrument. Nothing...nada...zip. That kind of reliability you don't find in a lot of products. For playing piano, I like the feel of a Baldwin or a well broken-in Steinway and the feel of this keybed is far better than other lighter boards, the acoustic piano patches are
superb, epianos offer several nice variations of Rhodes (dyno, suitcase, etc) but sadly no Wurly. The organ patches are editable and therefore quite usable especially if you have a decent tube amp and a good leslie sim (none offered on the P-150). No clav either. But some of these are non-issues as the newer units have these sounds whereas mine does not.

Having said all that, I've decided to order a Kurz PC1X and see how I like it. I can always send it back if I'm not satisfied. Instead of hauling a 74lb P-150 I'm gonna be carrying a 52lb PC1X and a XK-2.

Hi, if anyone can point me to a more appropriate forum for this
question, I'll go away quietly.
I currently own a Yamaha P90 piano. I bought it because I was
previously impressed with the P80 when I tried it and knew that the
P90 had a more reliable keyboard action. I was dismayed to learn that
the Rhodes sound in the 90 is inferior (in my opinion) to the 80. My
local music store is selling the P120 for a good price (< $1000). I'm
considering going for it. Can anyone comment on the P1 sound in each
keyboard and the quality of the units with regard to keyboard
reliability etc?
Thanks,
