The tube in the 3D sounds really good. As you may guess, it is much better
with a Speakeasy, but I have no complaints when I don't use the SE. It
obviously doesn't get the "throaty" sound of a real Leslie, but you will
definitely like it better than an XK2 being played without a tube.

Thank you for this valuable information. You have confirmed what I
suspected, that the KBR-3D is the most likely candidate for my needs. I've
only heard it once. At a festival we played, the keyboardist in the band
that went on before us used one and it sounded great. I do like the
all-in-one aspect of this amp as I want to send stereo epiano and the like
to the clean channel and run a XK-2 into the organ channel. Seems like a
great idea to me. And the extra muscle of a KBR-3D over the KBR-M is a must
have for me as I will be doing battle with not one but TWO egomaniacal
guitar slingers! LOL

Thanks for taking the time to write your thoughts. I do appreciate it indeed
and I think the choice is clear. Just one other thing I forgot to ask. Does
the MS tube preamp provide enough growl? My friend, Gary Drouin, builds and
markets his own line of Hurricane tube amps that are really phenominal, so I
will have him build me a couple of custom preamps.

I really like the MS KBR 3-D. I think that it is a very unique amp. That
being said, I do think though that you need to look at what your intent is
with the product. It sells for $1400 which isn't cheap (the best price I
found was BBORGAN). My thoughts:
1. If you intend on just playing organ through it, I would suggest spending
either a little bit extra and getting a Pro 145, or a real Leslie
2. If you intend on playing piano, synth and organ through it, especially on
the same tunes, or parts of tunes, I would buy the KBR3-D. I really like
the way that everything comes out of the same "source". When you are
playing a tune that has 8 bars of organ, then piano, then strings, then
organ etc.. it is great to have all of the sound coming from one source,
and having the rotary horn in the 3D is a vast improvement over any leslie
sim. I think that it is also important to think about the style of music
that you play. It is probably just me, but I find that I am able to
concentrate more on the music when I don't have to take that added mental of
step of wondering how my relative volume is between sound sources.
3. If you play gigs where either space or setup time is an issue, I would go
with the 3D, as it is a quick all in one solution.
4. If you ever are going to use it without sound reinforcement, I would
definitely recommend it over the KBRM
5. I personally like the stereo features, but never find myself using the
"enhancer" I think that it makes everything but big pads and strings sound a
little bit strange
6. I also use a Barbetta SE 41 pretty extensively, and I like the sound a
little bit better out of the Barbetta, but obviously it isn't in stereo, and
this is not a universally held opinion, as many people prefer the Motion
Sound amp!
