Subject:Re: amps
I've had a KC500 for about 4 years now, and I discovered two things about
it:
1) Not so good as a keyboard amp--does OK with organs & strings, but leaves
something to be desired with pianos (might be because of the overbearing
horn, as Steve Beach noted).
2) Works GREAT as a bass combo amp--I use it as my monitor system at the
church, where I play bass, and I've taken it to several jam sessions where I
have played 4 or 5-string basses thru it--works very well in this
application.
Is it possible the KC550 uses a different woofer?

having the amp apart and getting a good look at the woofer, it is NOT a bass
woofer, and the cone is rather flimsy. I too can make this thing distort,
and have when I'm playing left hand bass, or putting my drum machine through
it. But I love the bottom end this amp puts out....with the loudness switch
in the circuit it just sound so smooth. It's exaclty the sound I was
looking for. I just want to be able to push it harder.

something heavy duty like Yorkville bass speakers or Peavey Black Widows. I
really haven't looked around yet. With 2 of these amps, I have ample power
for stage monitoring.
