Subject:Re: Motion Sound KBR-M
The KBR-M is an excellent product.
In fact I think it is the best compromise "keyboard" speaker on the market.
So, why do I think that?
You have two Hi-Fi channels for pianos, synths, etc.
You have a tube pre-amped real rotating horn (and a good low rotor
simulator).
It is compact and a reasonable weight.
So, how does is sound?
The 2 HI-FI channels (for pianos, synths, etc) should sound the same as your
KT-80, except LOUDER - 130 Watts instead of 80.
For the organ tube channel you will notice some BIG differences:
1. The distortion is pleasing organ type distortion (the growl and scream
type)
2. The distortion is before the rotation (where it should be).
3. The horn rotates and there is just no way to reproduce the 360 degree
sound motion in any of the simulators that I have experienced.
Now, as I said at the beginning I think this is the best compromise keyboard
amp. So, what are the compromises?
Organ Channel
1. The Horn and Horn enclosure is small so it emphasizes the higher
frequencies (This is the same for all the MS products except for the Pro-145
and the new 771)
2. The lower rotor is a simulator.
So, the MS-Pro 145 or as "real" Leslie 122, 142, 147, 145 will sound better,
but they will only amplify the organ so you need another amp to amplify
pianos and the like.
HI-Fi Channels
Not as tight or as loud as my Barbetta 41C but again I am carrying an extra
amp.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------
So, in conclusion, the choices are:
1. $$ - $$$$ Leslie simulation with the best HI-FI speaker (preferably in
stereo). Can use HI-FI speaker for Organ and Leslie sim and other keyboards.
2. $$-$$$ KBRM, KBR-3D. Excellent compromise keyboard amps - real rotation
and good hi-fi.
3. $$$$ MS-Pro 145 in combination with the HI-FI speaker of your choice.
Great Sound, but two heavy amps to carry and wireup.
4. $$$$ Leslie X in combination with the HI-FI speaker of your choice.
Greatest? Sound, but one HEAVY amp with another heavy amp to carry and
wireup.
So, the choice is yours - there are many good ones.
The parameters are: Sound vs Weight vs Multiple amps
Good luck,
Josiah
