Subject:Re: Off Topic: need help fixing A-70 broken key
Sorry to hear about your repair guy situation Dave....its hard finding someone who actually knows what they are doing without having to deal with unsavory individuals.
The good news is, this is more than likely a common and easy fix; the bad news is, it requires parts and someone who actually is competent. The A90/70/80/50s used strips of rubber midi contacts and they wear out (which is what I think you're experiencing). I had a bonehead replace a strip for me, and he totally screwed up the keyboard. They are flexible strips (about 8 or 9 keys) and are not quite solid...each key's contact is about the width of the key with a square slot cut out in the middle, so if they're done correctly, they don't work right. It's also best to just replace the whole keybed's contacts if you're going to open it up....they're not that expensive, and they don't take that much more time. I can recommend a guy in Chicago if you don't mind shipping (probably about $40 each way).

Hey everybody,
I know there are several A-70 users on this forum. I have an A-70
with a problematic key (A#4). It sounds only if I hit it real hard.
Haven't tried opening the keyboard yet to check it out. I'd love
some advice on trying to resolve this myself, as there is no one
I'd want to take it to around here. The only repair guy in Boston
area is real unethical and grossly overcharges musicians for
work. The other guy is 100 miles away.
Any help offline is appreciated.
Thanks,
