Subject:Re: Roland Fantom original 2001 FA-76
Walter,
I use a Fantom FA-76 at every gig. I haven't played the newer models,
so I can't compare them. Mine is loaded with the SRX-07 Ultimate Keys
card and the SR-JV80-15 Special EFX card. As Tony said, the EPs are
nothing to write home about, but I'm quite pleased with the rest of
the sounds. I use a Yamaha S90 for pianos, EPs, clavs, and such and
use the Fantom primarily for strings, synth leads, etc.
As someone else mentioned, the organs on the Fantom are pretty good,
but probably won't satisfy someone who's played ANY clone. I use the
Fantom's organ patches at rehearsals but I use either a Korg BX-3 or
a Roland VK-8M MIDIed to the Fantom at gigs. The Fantom makes a
decent controller for the VK-8M and, with its 76 keys, has enough
room to do splits. I just wish it had waterfall keys. Oh,
well... "Wish in one hand, etc., etc., etc."
