Subject:Re: VK-8/CX-3 -- still on the fence...
I sold my CX-3 after playing a VK-7, but I should point out, I BOUGHT an
Electro. The CX-3, as it is out of the box, has a GREAT leslie sim, but to
this old Hammond owner's ears, it's brittle sounding. And, I think it's a
little thin in the upper octave. And, the overdrive is not very good at all.
All things that I thought were better in the VK-7. But, the VK-7 chorus
sounded funky to me in the upper octave. I wasn't the owner of the VK-7 so I
had no oportunity to edit it.
In any case, I actually look forward to playing my Electro. It's really
pretty darn good sounding to my ears. I'd like to try a VK-8 after playing a
VK-7, but I don't really have the desire to.
By the way, I played the Electro in stereo this weekend, and I found it more
inspiring to play than some of the Hammonds I have access to. I think Tommy
Z pointed out that the Electro sim in stereo is awesome, and I can now
agree.
I think the older you are, and the more time you've spent playing a real
Hammond, and the more you're inclined to think that old Gregg Rolie Santana
solos define the Hammond sound, the more you'd be inclined to dislike the
CX-3.
