patched into the insert on the mixer channel using the unbalanced connections . I'm
running the CX-3's master level at maximum. I'm getting distortion (not the good kind)
and the mixer channel isn't peaking. Pulling th CX-3's master level way back (to about 9:
00) helps a lot, but then I don't hear a nice warm tube sound. Any suggestions on setting
the channel volume and output gains on the preamp to maximize warmth without the bad
kind of distortion?
I've only had my Stereo Speakeasy Preamp a few months. Everything that goes to keyboard amps goes from mixer outs to speakeasy ins and through a stereo BBE. Controls on Speakeasy generally at three o clock with gain at a little past nine.
I originally thought I might be going with the insert route or splitting some things to different stereo sides of the Speakeasy but find at these settings it enhances everything with no problems. Although I do have a VK-7 in the rig going through it (and actually a slight amount of signal from a C3 when it is played) I don't really have much need for setting to get distortion because the C3 and Leslies are doing their thing.
The Speakeasy enhances anything and sure makes the VK-7 more tolerable in upper ranges where most clones have too much highs compare to the 5 or 6000 cycle limits of a Hammond.
Have you tried sending your whole signal through the Speakeasy?
