What keyboard are you driving the V5 with? If it has a control pedal
input you'll get much better results plugging a control pedal into the
keyboard and having the keyboard send MIDI Volume to the V5. I drive my
V5 with a Roland XP-50 keyboard, using a Yamaha FC-7 pedal plugged into
one of the "Pedal" inputs on the XP-50, and it works flawlessly.

The V5 doesn't respond to MIDI Expression control, only MIDI Volume
control.
